Our mission and main focus areas
The mission of our foundation is to create opportunities for positive development and a dignified life for children who are fostered and/or graduated from orphanages, as well as to support motherhood, family preservation and the prevention of child abandonment.
  • Social adaptation/reintegration for children and young people living without adult support
Social, professional and cultural adaptation, as well as socialisation and support for orphans, children and young people left without parental care in the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, regardless of whether they are in an institution or have been released from one; children and young people with developmental disabilities are certainly included.
  • Family preservation and prevention of child abandonment.

Support for mothers in difficult life situations and for families raising children with special developmental needs in the St Petersburg and Leningrad regions.
  • For the second consecutive year we have been implementing the project "Linking Generations - Heroes of Modern Russia", which was supported by funding from the Civil Society Development Grant of the President of the Russian Federation. With this project we are introducing schoolchildren to the Heroes of our time, and so, giving them the opportunity of cultivating a hero in themselves.
By investing our time, strength and energy in these children, we are also investing in our own children's future, creating a safer and more harmonious society
Why these topics seem important to us:
  • 1
    Change the statistics
The statistics are heartbreaking: only 4 out of every 100 orphanage graduates become productive members of society. The remaining 96 tend to adopt an asocial lifestyle and fall into alcoholism, drug addiction or even end up having to report to the authorities. This is often the case due to the fact that, when an adolescent leaves a state-run orphanage, he or she finds himself or herself alone facing the adult world, a world he or she is not yet prepared for. They are very easily influenced by antisocial circles and do not know who to turn to for help. They don't know how to plan a budget, how to apply for an allowance or even where to buy furniture. In order to prepare children and teenagrers for adult life, the Foundation Polza runs a programme called "Social Adaptation", which teaches them the most basic skills necessary for their future development and well-being. We teach the children and teenagrers the most basic and simple things, such as how to look after themselves (their skin, their body and their personal belongings), how to calculate a budget, how to cope with money, how to cook and buy food on a certain budget, as well as how to do sports and lead a healthy lifestyle. We have also created an online programme called "We are together", which aims to provide a common space of support for young people who have graduated from orphanages.

A chance to take a break
Mums and dads raising children with special needs are constantly stressed and living on the edge. Every day they have to deal with issues related to the survival, rehabilitation or treatment of their child. Being a " resource", remembering to take care of themselves is something that these parents lack energy, time and money for. Thus, we would like to help adults to breathe out, see themselves as beautiful and young, shake themselves up and replenish the much needed inner strength to create a positive atmosphere at home. We would like to help them find a second wind and the courage to continue to fight for the health and life of their children and to keep the family together.

We do the same for mothers in difficult situations - we let them catch their breath and find themselves again. This is exactly the kind of feedback we received after the first stream of the "New Me" online course.

The "New Me" course aims to support women in gaining new knowledge and skills to learn a new profession or find a job/ part-time job in today's modern environment so that they can support themselves and their child(ren) or family independently, even while staying at home. Moreover, we want to help women to believe in themselves again, to feel needed, beautiful and self-sufficient.

    Raising patriots
Unfortunately, the image of a hero among today's children is formed on the basis of American films. 10 out of 10 surveyed young people under the age of 20 do not know about the Pskov battalion's heroic deeds, while in the year 2000 (just 22 years ago) all members of this battalion were awarded the title "Hero of Russia" (posthumously). At present, the activities of the vast majority of military patriotic clubs and communities are reduced to laying flowers at memorials and visiting museums (which are undoubtedly important activities), but we wanted to go further than that: we introduce schoolchildren to real Heroes of Russia, thereby teaching and encouraging them to be heroes themselves, regardless of the times and circumstances.

Completed projects
We would like to thank everyone who helped us to carry out these projects
  • The project "Linking Generations. Children of War. Children of the Siege. Children."
With the support of a grant from the President of the Russian Federation for the development of civil society, we introduced orphans from the Kalozhitza Resource Centre to the personal stories of veterans who fought in the Great Patriotic War; our project contributed to building bridges between generations and helped them reflect on important human values, the homeland and true patriotism.

  • Beauty without borders
With this project, we wanted to give mothers and fathers in the Volosovo region who are raising children with special needs, as well as mothers in a difficult life situation, a chance to brighten up their everyday life and daily routine. Additionally, we wanted to give the orphans and children without parental care an opportunity to see themselves as the princesses and princes that they are.

  • Personalised gifts and greetings for 268 children with special needs in the Volosovo area
In cooperation with a major company in St Petersburg, we were able to collect gifts and make dreams come true for a very large number of families with many children as well as for families in difficult circumstances.
